Dare I Say, It Was An Organized 1st Day

Child #1 made it out of the house no only on time today, but with all necessary forms filled out. He bounded to school energy, relieved to be back. He did, however, balk at doing homework when he got home. Sometimes complaining about something takes more time than the actual task.

Child #2 & I did quite a bit of gardening today: planting, transplanting, weeding, watering. Very satisfying. She seems happy to have undivided Mom back.

So who am I? I am a woman who likes to garden. Let's see what tomorrow brings.

My Second Job (Next To Mother): PTA Member

I love our PTA. It does so much for the kids at our school and really make the kids feel like part of a community. This group even gives you an opportunity to write a check for school supplies which the group then orders. Saves me so much aggravation. The price for having such a great PTA is, of course, the amount of work required by parents. I'm always hesitant to volunteer for too much at the beginning of the year, knowing full well that the PTA will need help all year through. Still, Child #1 loves to see me at school (and I adore seeing him).

My biggest beef with them before the school year even begins is that they tied PTA dues to our school's directory. So you couldn't order the book without becoming a member of the PTA. Smart move, but they kind of have you over a barrel if you're going to have the names & addresses of your kid's school playmates.

Can't wait for the packet of info that will come home from school the first day. Lots of info. Lots of reading.

Who am I outside of being a mom?

It's Not Just About The Kids Seeing Their Friends

Had a great triple playdate with some cherished friends (women and children). My kids have grown up with these other kids and I consider these ladies among my dearest friends. It feels so good to have intelligent, funny, validating women in my life. And it's wonderful when everyone gets along! We can all relax & have good time. YYYYY

It got me thinking about that first day of school & how Child #1 will be seeing friends he hasn't seen all summer. I, too, will get to see moms (at drop off and pick up) that I haven't seen in months. They may not be close friends, but they're people I enjoy seeing. And Child #2 will enjoy seeing the hustle and bustle of going to and and coming from my son's school.

Sometimes, when the kids win, Mom wins, too.

Welcome To My Blog

Welcome to Mom's Crayon! I've borrowed one of my kids' crayons to write a few words and I hope to write a bit each and every week, depending on who needs what when.

A bit about me: I'm a mom in her late 40's with two wee folk under the age of 10. I'm married and my current position is that of Stay At Home Mom (at opposed to Working Mom, but really aren't all moms working moms?). Considering how pooped I am at the end of the day, I have infinte respect for those who actually bring home an income AND take care of their kids.

This week is big at our house since my older child starts school and the younger one begins preschool. Although summer has been wonderful and, for the most part, my kids have gotten along, I'm looking forward to a bit of "Me" time which I'll spend working out at the local YMCA.

Bye Summer Vacation! Bring on the school year!
