Dinosaurs Alive!

There is quiet all around. Peace reigns supreme. Suddenly, out of the darkness, there is a cry! It travels up the spinal cord & wraps around every sensor of the body. Is it a pteryldactyl? Is it a creature from some prehistoric era? No. It is the cry of the 3-year old, indignant because her brother has changed the television channel.

For this, I went to college.

Here's a gem credited to Jerry Seinfeld on the topic of co-sleeping with your kid. It was found on the website: http://celebrity-babies.com:

“It’s kind of like sleeping next to a laundry bag with a live collie in it.” That’s not all! Jerry adds,
“There’s a heat pump thing with little kids, they throw off tremendous amounts of heat. So you also get the feeling of a small engine running on bad gas, knocking and sputtering all night. It doesn’t run smooth."

It's Just Not Fair

I've been thinking a lot about the death of Jet Travolta. Somehow the word "death" should not be associated with a child. It's not right. It's not fair.

I used to be very blase' about this stuff before I had kids. But, of course, once you're a parent, your heart is on your sleeve. My thoughts & prayers are with Jet's family.

Coincidentally, I've been reading one of John Edward's books. John is the well-known psychic who has been all over TV, HSN, etc. I respect his work. He's convinced that that the soul survives and that our families live on, even into the next dimension.

I believe that, too. It just stinks when a child predeceases his/her parents. Maybe that soul had to move on, but the pain & suffering experienced by the people left behind is huge. I believe everything happens for a reason...wish I knew why so much has to go on....

These Are Definitely Worth A Look

A few weeks ago I blew through this book (yes, I read more than Dr. Seuss, thank you very much): Waiter Rant by STEVE DUBLANICA. It's about a guy who's a waiter and his experiences in that field. The book is interesting as well as funny and it's a result of his blog, also entitled Waiter Rant.
Since hubby is downstairs watching football with Child #1 and Child #2 is running around drafty house wearing nothing but her bathing suit and sequined silver slippers (don't ask), I checked out http://waiterrant.net. Again, very funny.

I recommend both. Now, let's go see if Mr. Charm (as he's dubbed himself) knows where his daughter is.

HAPPY 2009!

After Christmas, the family took off for 3 days in Phiadelphia - just to get away. Basically, if you give my kids an indoor pool, they're happy. In this case, they were delirious! We swam as much as possible while still seeing a little of the City Of Brotherly Love. Child #1 had been there when he was very little. In fact, we have pictures of him at the Rodin Museum & on the steps that Rocky climbed (can't remember the name of the place - I think it was the Art Museum). The boy, of course, does not remember. But we did do the Franklin Institute, which is a wonderful museum for kids. It had lots of stuff to touch.

The Boathouses were all lit up for the Holidays and I could feel the family relaxing together. Dad went into his "Vacation Dave" mode in which he just goes with the flow. I love Vacation Dave.

We got back before bad weather hit & just in time to celebrate the New Year. It's so sweet to hear Child #2 say, "Happy New Year" when you know she has no idea what it means.

My resolutions in 2009: 1) Eat in a more healthy-manner 2) Yell less.

Happy 2009!
