No Nuts In Here

Ok, I've been a little lax in keeping Mom's Crayon sharp, but with good reason. I had to have an emergency root canal this past Monday. Seems, unbeknownst to me, a tooth under the bridge in my mouth was going bad. After I started popping Advil like Tic Tac to no avail and after my dentist couldn't see me for another 24 hours, I got a little cranky. Then my mouth blew up and I got real cranky.

The thing is, going to a medical appointment isn't as easy as it was B.K. (Before Kids). I had to make sure both children were being properly taken care of before I could even think of going to the dentist, no matter how much pain I was in. Then there's the question of budget. After it was determined that I needed a root canal immediately, negotiations started happening. They went like this:

1. While the dentist's receptionist called some recommended docs to see if they were in our dental plan AND if they could see me immediately, I had hubby on the other line trying to look up area specialists who were knew were in our plan.

2. Then we got prices for the people in-network and out-of-network.

3. Since some docs couldn't see me for DAYS, we had to go with one out-of-network because my face was going to explode.

Meanwhile, the kids were having a ball. One was picked up from school and had a playdate. The other was having a playdate with her best friend.

Later, my husband commented that I looked as if I was saving nuts for the winter. Such wit.

And, actually, quite a bit of understanding and sympathy from him.

I still look like the Elephant Man's mom. But I'm feeling MUCH better!
